These three hats are cut for children's heads and carry a light in the folded cuff that throws its beam up to 30 feet on the two four-bulb styles. The Kids LED Beanie, in Navy Blue or Rose Red, is 100% acrylic and runs up to 10 hours on a charge. The pom-pom style has four bulbs and three levels, about 8 hours per charge, in six mostly two-tone knits. The cuff style, also in six colors, uses a softer yarn than plain acrylic for the child who pulls an itchy hat straight off.

Fit matters more on a child than on you. The American Academy of Pediatrics asks that a hat never slide down over a child's eyes or block their view, so pull it on, fold the cuff, and have your child look up and to both sides before you leave the house. Children lose heat faster than adults because their bodies are smaller, the AAP adds, which is why a hat sits on its winter list in the first place.

On Halloween the AAP suggests reflective tape or glow elements and a flashlight after dark. A lit cuff does the flashlight's job and leaves both hands free for the candy bag. Charge the light with its own cable and unplug it once it is full, the way you would any lithium-ion device in the house.

Each light comes out of the cuff before the hat goes in the wash and charges from a standard USB port.
