Seeing the road and being seen from it are two different jobs

A driver does not see your hat. The driver sees headlight coming back off it. Each beanie here carries a reflective stripe in the knit for exactly that. Two of them add our cuff light as well. The Reflective Stripe LED Beanie is double-layer acrylic in five colors, Fluorescent Yellow and Dark Orange among them, and you can turn the cuff so the light faces forward or back. The Fleece-Lined Reflective LED Beanie comes in Blue or Fluorescent Yellow. On both, the stripe runs all the way around, 360 degrees.

The two without a light suit crews and walkers who already carry a lamp. The Fleece-Lined Reflective Beanie comes in four colors, the Reflective Knit Beanie in Black or Gray, and both wear two ways. Cuffed once, the stripe sits around your forehead where a windshield picks it up. Unfolded, the hat turns into a slouchy everyday beanie for the hours when nobody needs to see you from a car.

Keep your expectations where the federal research puts them. The FHWA says a walker in dark clothes is first seen at about 55 feet. NHTSA finds that people overestimate how visible they are, that reflective material works best where it moves and outlines the body, and that no study has yet tied visibility aids to fewer crashes. So a stripe at head height makes you easier to spot in the beam, and a light shows up before the beam arrives. Neither turns a hat into high-visibility apparel: ANSI/ISEA 107 covers whole garments and dropped its accessory criteria in 2020. The seen at night guide has the rest.

Questions

About MELASA reflective and hi-vis beanies

Is a MELASA reflective beanie high-visibility apparel?

No. ANSI/ISEA 107 covers whole garments and dropped its criteria for accessories in 2020, so no hat earns a class under it. Our reflective beanies make your head easier to pick out once headlights reach it. If your job requires a high-visibility vest, wear it with the hat.

Which MELASA reflective beanies have a light?

Two of them. The Reflective Stripe LED Beanie and the Fleece-Lined Reflective LED Beanie both carry a 360 degree stripe and a cuff light with three levels. The Fleece-Lined Reflective Beanie and the Reflective Knit Beanie have the stripe and no light.

How do you wear the MELASA reflective knit so the stripe shows?

Fold the cuff once. On the Fleece-Lined Reflective Beanie and the Reflective Knit Beanie the stripe then sits around your forehead, where a windshield picks it up. Unfolded, either one turns into a slouchy everyday beanie.
