Know which of these is extra cover and which is eye protection

Ordinary glasses are open at the sides, and on a windy ride or a dusty afternoon in the yard that is where grit comes in. Our slip-on side shields add a clear wing to each arm of the glasses you already own. They are soft TPU, they push on by hand, and the right and left shields are marked so you never swap them. Before you order, put a ruler across the temple arm near the hinge. The standard shields need it under 12 mm wide, the slim pair under 10 mm. The standard ones come in 12 pack sizes, from 2 pairs to 60.

Side shields on everyday glasses are not safety eyewear. OSHA accepts clip-on or slide-on side shields only on glasses that already meet ANSI Z87.1. A worker with a prescription needs safety glasses with the prescription built in, or protection that goes over the glasses without moving them. Our Anti-Fog Safety Goggles are the second kind: a wrap-around PVC frame, a polycarbonate lens, four vents, an elastic strap, and room for most glasses underneath, one or two to a pack.

We sell the goggles as meeting ANSI Z87.1. Before you count on them at work, find the Z87 mark on the frame itself, since the standard asks for the maker's marking on every device. Anti-fog is an optional rating in Z87.1, not something every goggle has to pass. ISEA counts roughly 20,000 US workers a year treated for eye injuries, and the eye protection guide walks through which kind of cover a job calls for.

Questions

About MELASA side shields and safety goggles

Will MELASA side shields fit your glasses?

Hold a ruler across the temple arm, close to the hinge. Under 12 mm wide, the Slip-On Side Shields go on. Under 10 mm, on a small frame, pick the small-frame pack of the same shields. Every pair pushes on by hand, no tools, with an R and an L to tell the sides apart.

Do MELASA side shields count as eye protection at work?

No. OSHA accepts side shields only on glasses that already meet ANSI Z87.1, and our shields go on everyday glasses. Where a job calls for eye protection, the goggles in this group go on over your glasses, or your eye doctor can make you a pair of prescription safety glasses.

Can you wear MELASA goggles over your glasses?

Yes. The Anti-Fog Safety Goggles have a wrap-around frame with room for most glasses underneath and an elastic strap you adjust to your head. Before you rely on them at work, find the Z87 mark on the frame itself.

Do MELASA goggles stay clear?

The polycarbonate lens is coated against fog and scratches, and air moves through four vents in the frame. Anti-fog is an optional rating in ANSI Z87.1, so a hot, hard-working day can still fog any goggle.
