Sweat stays off your face and the helmet stays where it was

In July the trouble under a helmet is less the heat than the sweat that runs off your forehead into your eyes at the worst moment. Every cap on this shelf is thin mesh or wicking fabric with a band at the edge that soaks the sweat up before it drips. The Cooling Mesh Skull Cap has the most ratings here, over 5,000, and comes in 22 colors. The Sweat-Wicking Cooling Skull Cap is the simpler one, in five.

The rest differ by what else they cover. The neck shade and neck extension liners hang a flap over the back of your neck. The ear flap cap covers your ears where a helmet strap rubs. The cycling cap has a short brim you flip up when you need the whole road in view. The Cooling Do-Rag sizes with a strap at the back, and the mesh do-rags in the 2-Pack trail a long tail over your neck. Three caps come three to a pack, at 17 to 17.7 grams each, so a dry one can wait in your bag for the afternoon.

A cap is a comfort layer, not a plan for heat. OSHA's guidance comes down to water, rest and shade, plus time to get used to the heat if you are new to it. NIOSH suggests a cup of water every 15 to 20 minutes for moderate work lasting under 2 hours. Neither mentions caps. Wear one to keep sweat out of your eyes and drink anyway. Under a hard hat, use a liner sold for it and confirm with the helmet's maker.

Questions

About MELASA cooling skull caps and hard hat liners

Does a MELASA cooling cap keep you from overheating?

No cap does that. OSHA's heat advice is water, rest and shade, plus time to get used to the heat. What a cooling cap does is catch sweat at your brow and sit thin under a helmet. Wear one for comfort and keep drinking.

Which MELASA cooling cap covers your neck?

The Cooling Hard Hat Liner with Neck Shade and the Cooling Hard Hat Liner with Neck Extension both hang a flap over the back of your neck. The mesh do-rags in the 2-Pack have a long tail at the back that does the same.

Why buy MELASA cooling caps in a 3-pack?

A soaked cap stops doing its job by early afternoon. With three in the bag you change into a dry one at lunch and wash the rest at night. The Cooling Skull Cap 3-Pack is machine washable, and each cap in the three packs weighs 17 to 17.7 grams.

Which MELASA cap fits under a hard hat in summer?

The mesh liners sold for wear under a hard hat: the Cooling Mesh Skull Cap, the Sweat-Wicking Cooling Skull Cap, the neck shade and neck extension liners, and two 3-packs. Ask your hard hat maker which liners it allows. The skull cap and liner guide explains why.
